Dustin R. Plunkett, DDS
Dr. Dustin Plunkett is a highly trained, patient-focused dentist who is dedicated to delivering advanced, evidence-based dental care to the Lowcountry. As the owner of Kiawah Village Dentistry in Freshfields Village, he proudly serves families from Kiawah Island, Seabrook Island, Johns Island and the entire Lowcountry community with comprehensive care that blends comfort, technology, and exceptional results.
Born and raised in the town of Skaneateles, New York, Dr. Plunkett spent his early years skiing snowy winters and boating on the lake every summer. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology Magna Cum Laude before continuing his education at The University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine. With a passion for advanced clinical training, he completed a hospital-based residency at the Veteran Affairs Medical Center in Hampton, Virginia, focusing on complex restorative and surgical procedures.
He later expanded his expertise with continuing education through programs including:
Progressive Orthodontics
American Institute of Implant Dentistry
Obstructive Sleep Apnea University
Prior to making the Lowcountry home, Dr. Plunkett worked in private practice and in the Department of Surgery at Providence Hospital in Washington, D.C., while also providing care to underserved communities through Indian Health Services, Remote Area Medical, and Mission of Mercy programs throughout the U.S., Haiti, and the Dominican Republic.
Drawn to the Charleston area since childhood, Dr. Plunkett eventually took over one of the first established dental practices in Freshfields Village. Today, Kiawah Village Dentistry has tripled in size, growing into a two-doctor, three-hygienist office equipped with state-of-the-art technology and full-service dental care for the expanding community.
What truly sets Dr. Plunkett apart is his unwavering commitment to the people he serves. Many patients have his personal number because he believes real care means being there when patients need him most—even if that’s on a holiday or weekend. That trusted, small-town relationship paired with top-tier clinical care has become a hallmark of the practice.
When he isn’t treating patients, Dr. Plunkett enjoys golfing, skiing, boating, road biking, and gathering with friends and family for a proper Lowcountry oyster roast. Now a proud resident of Seabrook Island, with his parents and extended family living nearby, he feels grateful to live and work in the place he has always loved.
Whether someone needs a complete smile transformation, implant dentistry, family care, or emergency treatment, Dr. Plunkett’s mission remains consistent: provide world-class dentistry without leaving the island, keeping patients confident, comfortable, and cared for every step of the way.
